KishHealth System announces Acclaimed Physician Awards

Three Kishwaukee Community Hospital medical staff members have been recognized by KishHealth System as Acclaimed Physicians for 2011. They are Dr. Krishna Reddy, Dr. Karen Federici, and Dr. Rogér Maillefer.

Dr. Reddy, the hospital’s chief pathologist and director of the health system’s Continuing Medical Education program, received the Promotion of Quality of Award. Dr. Federici, a family medicine physician who practices in Genoa received the Outstanding Service to Patients Award.  Dr. Maillefer, a general surgeon with DeKalb Clinic, received the Humanitarian/Community Service Award.

The awards were presented at the health system’s fourth annual Physician Recognition Event.  Twenty-two physicians from the Kish and Valley West Community Hospital medical staffs received nominations from employees, the community and medical staff colleagues.

Outstanding Service to Patients
Dr. Federici, who is board certified in Family Medicine, cares for women and their children, stressing a natural approach to medicine and parenting.

Patients who nominated her said she is an outstanding doctor, a doctor who listens, “really listens to you,” who takes the time to answer questions and explain things in a way patients can understand. She is highly recommended by others and described as caring, knowledgeable, helpful and available after hours.

One nominator noted that her children, like so many, seem to get sick right after the doctor’s office has closed, or worse yet, on a Friday, after 5 pm. She said she has had to call this physician, after office hours, because of a sick child.

“I felt so bad – I didn’t want to take her away from her own family time – but not once, did she ever make me feel like I was intruding. In fact, she reminded me that she was there for us whenever we needed her. As a first time parent, I cannot find words to express my gratitude for her consistently understanding attitude.”

Another said her children love going to the doctor because of Dr. Federici’s care.  Strengths described in her nominations include the words “goes above and beyond,” “offers outstanding support,” and “amazed at how patient she is with me.”

Dr. Federici, mother of four and a board certified lactation consultant, makes herself available for classes and support groups on breastfeeding and is respected for her wealth of knowledge on the subject. She also is a member of the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine.

She joined the medical staff and started her practice, Family First Physicians, Genoa, in 2006, where she continues with the help of her husband, Barry.  In 2010, she received the Daily Chronicle’s DeKalb County’s Finest Awards for Best Physician and One of the Best Women’s Health Centers. Dr. Federici also received an award from the Chicago Area Breastfeeding Coalition in November 2010.
